Crichton-Brown 19xx-2013

 Biographical Note

Sir Robert Crichton-Brown, KCMG CBE TD was Chairman of CBC Bank.

1938 in London Mr Robert S Crichton-Brown joined the Lumley Group.
1939-45 war service in Iceland, France, India and Burma.
1947-2003 Robert re-joined the Lumley Group, 1947 holding positions in Sydney from 1947 as Director, Managing Director and Chairman; remaining as a Director until 2003.
1981-1985 he was Chairman of Rothmans of Pall Mall (Aust) Limited. 1985-1988 Executive Chairman of Rothmans International. He also held positions as Director and Chairman of a range of commercial companies including The Commercial Banking Company of Sydney Ltd (CBC Bank) of which 1981-05-21 he was Chairman when CBC Chairman Sir Robert Crichton-Brown & NBA Chairman Sir Robert Law-Smith jointly announced merger to form National Commercial Banking Corp of Aust Ltd (NCBCofA).
1967-80 Sir Robert was President of the Institute of Directors of Australia,
1973-85 Honorary Federal Treasurer of the Liberal Party of Australia,
1970-84 a Director of Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. He worked with a number of community organisations including the Salvation Army, the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, the National Scout Association and the Girl Guides Association of Australia. 1967 Sir Robert was a member of Australia’s winning Admiral’s Cup Team in the UK (Balandra). 1970 was a member of the team that won the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race (Pacha). Sir Robert Crichton-Brown is an Honorary Governor and a Founding Member of the Medical Foundation. He held positions as Honorary Treasurer, and 1962-87 President.
1987 Sir Robert was appointed an Honorary Fellow of the University of Sydney and was an Honorary Life Governor of the Australian Postgraduate Federation in Medicine. Chairman of N.E.I. Engineering Pacific Group, Chairman of Rothmans of Pall Mall (Australia) Group, Director of Daily Mail & General Trust PLC (UK), Director of Edward Lumley Holdings Ltd (UK), Director of Edwards Dunlop & Co Group, Director of Rothmans International Group (UK).

Sir Robert was husband of the late Nono (Nora Isabelle nee Turnbull), father of Bernice (Bun) and Ant & father-in-law, grandfather and great grandfather to their families. 2013-08-02 Friday 12 noon funeral service St John's Church Hyde Park Crescent London W2 2 QD, JH Kenyon Funeral Directors London 4420 79370757

He passed away aged 93 years at Princess Grace Hospital, London on Thursday 11th July 2013.  Dearly beloved husband of the late Nono, father of Bun and Ant.
